1학년에 재학 중인 Shynar Nozad (시냐르 노자드)이다. 이라크의 Kurdistan이라는 지역에서 태어났다.

아주 어린 시절부터 패션을 좋아했다. 항상 패션계에서 일하고 싶다고 생각했다. 어린 시절 늦은 시간 패션쇼를 TV에서 보면서 내 패션컬렉션을 소개하는 자리라고 상상하곤 했다. 그러나 고등학교 졸업 때까지 패션디자인을 공부할 생각은 하지 못했다.

17세가 되면서 한국을 처음 방문할 기회가 있었는데, 한국이 너무 좋았다. 단 한 순간도 내가 이방인이란 생각이 들지 않았고, 마치 내 고향 같아서 스스로도 놀라웠다. 결국 패션교육으로 유명한 에스모드 서울에 대해 알게 되어, 이곳에서 패션디자인을 공부하기로 결정했다. 지금까지 공부한 결과, 기대 이상의 교육이 이루어지는 곳이라는 생각이다. 사실 기초부터 교육한다는 커리큘럼만 믿고, 그림이나 바느질 등에 대한 사전지식이 전혀 없이 입학했다. 입학한지 1개월 만에 그림실력이 늘었고, 바느질 하는 법을 익히기 시작했다.

에스모드에서의 교육 중 가장 좋은 것은 기본 실력이 있는 학생과 아닌 학생 간에 차별을 두지 않는 다는 것이다. 현재 공부하는 학생의 수준이 다양한데, 이에 맞춰 교수들이 단계적으로 발전할 수 있도록 지도한다. 훌륭한 교수법을 우수한 교수진이 구현한다고 말할 수 있다.

아직 특별히 좋아하는 디자이너는 없다. 나는 변화를 사랑하고 끊임없는 변화를 추구하는 사람이다. 한 곳에 안주하고 싶지 않다. 그렇기에 좋아하는 디자이너 역시 계속 바뀐다. 지금은 신규용, 박지선이 전개하는 블라인드니스 (BLINDNESS)를 좋아한다. 앤드로진, 유니섹스 스타일의 옷을 좋아하는데, 이 브랜드가 젠더리스, 앤드로지너스 룩을 구현하고 GenderBLIND 를 표현하기 때문이다.

한국 패션은 놀랍다. 개인적으로 한국의 패션이 저평가 받고 있다는 생각이다. 내 미적 감각은 한국과 부합한다. 한국인들은 유니섹스 의복을 매우 잘 소화한다. 내 고국에서는 패션을 중요하게 여기지 않는 분위기다. 일부 사람들의 단순한 취미정도로 치부된다고 할까? 패션디자이너가 되려면, 해외에서 공부할 수 밖에 없다.

에스모드 서울을 졸업하면, 서울에서 내 브랜드를 하고 싶다. 나만의 방식으로 나만의 컬렉션을 런웨이에서 선보이고 싶었던 그 꿈을 이루고 싶다.

 

Shnyar NOZAD

1. Introduce yourself (Name, Country, Background etc…)
My name is Shnyar Nozad, preferably known as Noah. I come from a small region in Iraq called Kurdistan.

2. The reason that you're studying FASHION?
I loved fashion from a very young age, it was my passion, and I always wanted to be in the fashion industry. I remember times where I would watch fashion shows late at night and just imagine how it would be to have my own fashion runway. Though it was not decided until my last year of high school that I would actually study fashion design.

3. Why KOREA? Why ESMOD SEOUL?
After visiting Korea for the first time when I was 17, I fell in love with it. I do not remember a time where I felt like I did not belong here, it felt like my home and it was very surprising. I chose to study fashion design in Esmod Seoul because I heard how much of an amazing school it was for Fashion and that it was not necessary to be experienced.

4. How was your life at ESMOD SEOUL and The best thing of ESMOD SEOUL?
Esmod has been nothing but great so far. I came to the school with no skills of drawing whatsoever, and did not know how to sew anything at all. In the span of 1 month, I improved my drawing and started learning how to sew. The best thing about Esmod is that they do not discriminate between the skilled and not skilled, they teach you regardless of what level you are and they help you with each step you take. Their educational system is perfect and so are the professors that teach there.

5. Your final destination is a FASHION DESIGNER? If yes, describe (or imagine) your future. If no, what do you want to do? 
After graduating from Esmod I would like to open my own brand in Seoul. I have always wanted my own platform and my own runway and I will make that dream come true. 

6. Your Favorite designer? Why?
I do not have a specific favorite designer. I am a person that likes to change and keep on changing. I do not enjoy staying on one page. So my favorite designer is always changing as well. Currently I really like Shin Kyuyong and Ji Sun of BLINDNESS Seoul. I love androgynous and unisex clothing and their designs express androgynousity and genderless or as they like to describe it GenderBLIND. I also do love Palomo Spain for the exact same reasons as mentioned previously.

7. KOREAN fashion VS. Your Country’s fashion, what's it like?
Fashion in Korea is pretty amazing and I believe that Korea is very underrated for its Fashion. My aesthetics fit right in Korea since here they do enjoy unisex clothing very well. In my country Fashion is not recognized as a major, and it is just a simple hobby of people. Anyone who wants to become a fashion designer has to study abroad for it.
